Douglas Katz, M.D.

Douglas I. Katz, MD is a neurologist who subspecializes in behavioral neurology and neurorehabilitation, and is widely recognized for his expertise in traumatic brain injury. He received his BA from Brandeis University and MD from SUNY Stony Brook School of Medicine. He has been at Braintree Rehabilitation Hospital for over 20 years where he is Medical Director of Brain Injury Programs. He is with Boston University Neurology Associates and is Associate Professor of Neurology at Boston University School of Medicine. He has numerous publications, largely on the topics of brain injury recovery, pathophysiology, and pharmacologic treatments. He frequently presents at national and international meetings. He is coeditor, along with Nathan Zasler and Ross Zafonte, of a recently released comprehensive text on TBI published by Demos, “Brain Injury Medicine.” His present research interests include predictors of TBI recovery, disorders of consciousness, assessment and rehabilitation of cognitive impairments and medication trials for cognitive impairments after TBI, as well as rehabilitative treatments for Parkinson’s disease.

Dr. Katz is on the Board of Directors of the American Society of Neurorehabilitation, the Board of Governors of the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine and was recently on the Board of Directors of the Brain Injury Association of America; he is Past-Chair of the Section on Neural Repair and Rehabilitation for the American Academy of Neurology. He serves on a number of editorial boards, advisory boards and national committees involving brain injury, neurorehabilitation and related areas.

He was awarded the Sheldon Berrol MD Clinical Service Award by the Brain Injury Association of America in 2001 and the Al Gazagyan Lifetime Achievement Award of MAB Community Services in 2010. He has received the distinction of Fellow of the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine and the American Academy of Neurology.
